The Lure of Alaska

(Dr. Leonard S. Sugden, 1915)

Formerly a surgeon with the Royal Northwest Mounted Police, Dr. Leonard S. Sugden created this documentary of Alaska over three years. The film travels from the Seattle harbor and along the Inner Passage to the southwest coast of Alaska and features the towns of Juneau, Sitka, Skagway, and Dawson. Scenes include a midnight baseball game in Dawson City, a caribou herd swimming in a river, and icebergs breaking away from glaciers. The film had its premiere in Los Angeles in January, 1915.
