Igloo

(Ewing Scott, 1932)

Filmed in the Arctic region north of Point Barrow, Alaska with an all-Eskimo cast, this docudrama tells the story of a young hunter named Chee-ak who visits a neighboring tribe in order to win Kyatuk, daughter of the crippled chief. When a storm drives the tribe into their igloos, their food dwindles and they must move south in search of food and leave the elderly to freeze to death in their igloos, according to tribal law. The film culminates with a thrilling and bloody walrus hunt.
